Summer 2021 Quick Getaway Ideas: Downstream Casino Resort
To kick off the Summer 2021 Quick Getaway Series, we're starting with Downstream Casino Resort in Quapaw, Oklahoma!
Kansas City area - this series is for you! If you're looking for quick getaway ideas or a staycation this summer, I will be providing you with some fun ideas over the next couple months!
Downstream is right about two hours away from Overland Park. It's just on the border of Kansas and extremely close to Joplin, Missouri. The reason Downstream is so great for a quick summer getaway is it has a lot more to offer than just a casino... especially in the summer!
Outdoor Pool and Bar
What's the best thing about Downstream in the summer? Their outdoor pool and pool bar!
This is seriously my favorite part of the whole place. Downstream's outdoor pool and bar is definitely worthy of the "resort" title.
Not only do they have a pool, but there is a hot tub outside as well! If the days you go are on the colder side... or you're just someone who enjoys a jacuzzi, it's perfect for you.
Around the pool they have lounge chairs, tables, cabanas to rent and even have a few benches along the inside of the pool. All of the lounge chairs include flags you can raise for poolside service from the bar.
Speaking of the bar, not only do they have cold bottled beer with bucket options, but they also have delicious mixed cocktails to try. It's perfect for being poolside in the summer! Personally, I like to enjoy the Downstreamer or just a good ol' Miami Vice to switch it up.
Downstream's outdoor pool and bar is definitely my favorite part about being there in the summer. I highly recommend spending a day or two there just to get a relaxing, getaway, pool day vibe!
And... Downstream does have an indoor pool and hot tub as well in case you catch a rainy day! Their indoor pool area has a glass door and window area that opens to a patio spot outside with lounge chairs. You can also bring some drinks of your own in the area, as well.
Casino
I mean... it is Downstream CASINO Resort! I just like to mention they outdoor pool and bar first because that's the most important part to me!
Downstream's casino is honestly a well-kept, very nice casino. Every time I've been they've had nice staff and it's always kept very clean.
Not only that, but it's really not too smoky! If I head into a casino that is extremely smoky... it's usually a big NO for me. Especially since I'm not even a big gambler in the first place. While you're never going to avoid that smoke smell completely in a casino, it's definitely one of the better ones I've been in!
And of course, they do have a non-smoking room you can go into if needed.
The casino is back to being open 24 hours!
Bars and Restaurants
There are multiple bars and restaurants located in and around the casino itself. From a quick snack bar, to an every day sports bar to even a more upscale steakhouse... there are plenty of options for whatever your mood may be
Red Oak Steakhouse
Red Oak is a fine dining experience steakhouse. They have a business casual dress code and you are able to make reservations online.
I have personally never dined at Red Oak, mainly because I'm not usually feeling super "business casual" when I am visiting Downstream!
Spring River Buffet
Spring River Buffet is closed on Monday and Tuesday, but every other night have a special buffet option.
I have eaten at the buffet once and it was great experience!
Legends Sports Bar
Legends is my go-to spot for dining!
It's basically a cliché sports bar, which I love, that will actually provide live music on Friday and Saturday evenings on their stage above the bar.
Their food is always good and the service is great and super friendly! They also have their Downstream Crafter Brewing Company beer spot to see in the back, where they create six of their very own beers.
Wa-Na-Bée-Déa
Wa-Na-Bée-Déa, which means "come eat" in the Quapaw language, is open late and is a perfect spot for a quick lunch or snack.
This is where I like to go on visits where I stay up a little too late and need a quick snack to keep me going!
Devil's Promenade
You can't miss Devil's Promenade!
Devil's Promenade is the bar smack in the center of the casino, accompanied by a super fun light funnel. You can grab your gambling drinks there or you can just grab a drink and hangout at one of their tables.
The bar also has table top machines where you can sit and gamble right at the bar, as well!
Ma-Kó-Sha
Whether you're starting another day at Downstream or heading back home, Ma-Kó-Sha is a cute coffee and pastry shop perfect for your morning!
Ma-Kó-Sha opens every morning at 7am.
Lover's Leap
Lover's Leap is a bar across from Ma-Kó-Sha, however it is currently closed.
Née Spa
Née Spa is a great way to relax while on your quick getaway as well.
I have definitely paired the spa with some pool time and it's such a great getaway combo!
Née Spa offers massages, facials, nail services and packages that include a combination of services. When getting ready for a massage, we also had access to their spa hot tub, sauna and steam room
If you're not a huge casino person - this is definitely an amazing and relaxing way to spend part of your day!
Downstream Casino Resort is definitely a quick getaway location that I highly suggest if you're in the Kansas City area. Not only do they have an assortment of activities and entertainment, but their rooms and suites are so spacious, clean and relaxing as well!
You should definitely but Downstream Casino Resort on your weekend trip list for this summer!
