Indoor Family Fun in Kansas City

Surprisingly the weather for our Kansas City winter so far has actually been pretty manageable, but we all know that probably won’t last!

So I’ve rounded up a few fun spots in the KC Area for you and your family to still get out and have fun indoors during the colder days of this season.

1. Wonderscope Children’s Museum of Kansas City

Indoor Family Fun Kansas City

Wonderscope is located in the Red Bridge Shopping Center in Kansas City, Missouri. It’s such a fun spot to take your little ones and while most of the activities are indoors, there is even a small outdoor area to experience as well if you catch yourself there on one of these 50 degree winter days!

Wonderscope Children’s Museum is great for kids of all ages. There are areas to get active and play with sports balls, a water zone, an art corner and there is even a “Tot Zone” for the smaller kiddos. Plus, kids 2 & under get in free!

2. Kaleidoscope

Indoor Family Fun Kansas City

Kaleidoscope is a great place to take kids to have fun inside - especially since it’s free!

You can make reservations for a date and time you want to go online. Then you can get the kids ready and go let them be creative!

At Kaleidoscope kids get an hour time slot where they can go in and just create as many crafts, puzzles or whatever other fun things are available to them to take home when they’re done.

There are so many different things for the kiddos to create and it’s so fun to watch them bounce around from station to station and just do their thing!

3. Play Cafés

Inspired Play Café and MY Play Café are indoor playgrounds with cafés for the adults to enjoy coffee or lunch at while their children play.

Inspired Play Café is located is Leawood, KS and MY Play Café is located in Lee’s Summit. Both locations have different options depending on how you want to play ranging from open play reservations to memberships.

This would be a great spot for mommas to meet up with their little ones, enjoy and coffee and let the kids enjoy playtime with each other.

4. Johnson County Museum/KidScape

Johnson County Museum has different exhibits that older children could enjoy, but for those smaller ones, they also have KidScape. KidScape is an immersive experience that includes interactive history experience for children.

If you’re planning on taking your family out to KidScape here are a few things to consider:

  • General Admission Prices for kids and adults.

  • There are currently 4 free dates in 2023 including March 16, June 10, September 16, and November 22.

  • They have Sensory Friendly Mondays where pre-registration is reuqired.

  • Membership options are available.

5. Lego Land/Sea Life Aquarium

Outside of Crown Center you can find both Lego Land and Sea Life Aquarium.

These are both great options to have some family fun indoors this winter, whether you pick just one place to visit or decided to do both in you day. Either way, you’ll be able to enjoy some fun together with you and your family!

6. Museum at PrairieFire

The Museum at PrairieFire has different things for your kids to experience and enjoy.

As soon as you walk enter, The Great Hall you can see the first T-Rex ever discovered as well as learn some quick facts about them.

Along with that you can also check out the Discovery Room, Kansas City Natural History, “Looking Out, Looking Back” Sprint Gallery and there’s even a VR Theatre for ages 10+!

7. Pinstripes

Pinstripes Bowling, Bocce and Bistro is a great spot to enjoy some family fun.

Whether you want some to sit down for a great meal together, compete in a game of bowling, learn a new game of Bocce ball, or even a combination of the any of these 3 things, this is the perfect spot for you!

One great feature of their bowling lanes is that you can select bumpers for different players. So if you’re little ones need bumpers, but you or your older ones don’t, the bumpers will come up and retract based on which player’s turn it is. Cool right?

8. Dave & Busters

For those families with kids who are a little older, Dave & Busters is a perfect spot to have some indoor fun. You could even enjoy a little family competition too!

Dave & Busters has two locations in the Kansas City area - Overland Park and The Legends in KCK.

Not sure which day to visit? All day Wednesday is 1/2 price games!

9. Science City

Science City is located in Union Station and will give your little ones lots of hands-on activities to enjoy.

Not to mention, since it’s located in Union Station you can easily grab lunch before or after you visit, or maybe even catch a movie as well!

10. Sky Zone / Urban Air

Let’s face it, trampoline parks are the best of both worlds. Not only do they give your kids something fun to do indoor, but it gives them a fun way to exert a lot of energy!

Sky Zone has two different locations in the Kansas City area - Lee’s Summit, MO and Shawnee, KS. One thing I love about Sky Zone specifically is that they offer Little Leapers an hour or two before official opening where kids 7 & under can jump and not worrying about being knocked over by the older kids.

Urban Air has two different locations in the KC area as well - Overland Park, KS and Lenexa, KS.

11. Main Event

Main Event has multiple location in the Kansas City area including Olathe, KC North and Independence.

This is a great spot to visit when you’re looking for all sorts of fun whether it’s bowling, laser tag, arcade games, gravity ropes or even some virtual reality!

Grab your family and plan a fun food & games day at Main Event this winter.

12. Fun Run

Fun Run has locations in both Liberty and Blue Springs, Missouri.

This indoor park offers fun inflatables, slides, games and more for your little ones to enjoy and get out some energy even while playing indoors.
