5 Places to Eat & Drink in Galveston, TX
This year my husband and I visited Galveston Island - Galveston, Texas - for the first time and we loved it! We stayed a couple nights at the Hilton Galveston Island Resort, which was right across the street from Galveston Beach, and a couple nights at an Airbnb near The Strand, which is downtown Galveston.
Since we switched up our locations a little bit, we were able to try out multiple restaurants, bars. etc., that we hadn’t heard about before arriving there. Maybe we should have done some more research, who knows, but we looked up a few places once we were there & scouted out a few fun spots while exploring the island ourselves. These should definitely be on your list of places to eat and drink at while in Galveston, Texas!
With that being said, a few things I’m going to share about each spot are:
Location
Service/Experience
Menu/Drink Selection

5. Fisherman’s Wharf | Seafood Grill
Now, I have this as number five because when we shared our pictures/experience while there, some people we knew did seem to have heard of, and even visited, Fisherman’s Wharf. And, to no surprise, their comments were that they loved it!
Location: Fisherman’s Wharf is located at Pier 21 - near The Strand - overlooking the Galveston Channel. They have outdoor seating with gorgeous views of the channel and the boats in the port.
Service/Experience: We actually stopped in twice here and both experiences were great!
We stopped in during happy hour our first day staying near The Strand - on my birthday - and we just had drinks that day. The service at the bar, and my strawberry daiquiri, were awesome!
Menu/Drink Selection: They had a great food and drink selection and everything we tried was amazing.
After the day we went for happy hour, a friend recommended I try the crab cakes, which I had never tried in my life, but I decided to go for it.
Following that recommendation, we went back the next day for an early lunch and I ordered those crab cakes and they were AMAZING. Seriously, I had no idea if I would like crab cakes in the first place since I had never tried them, but I’d order that first thing going back!

4. Stuttgarden Tavern
Stuttgarden Tavern is a 3 story tavern that makes a great spot to go hangout and have a drink. We didn’t eat when we were there, but they have a rooftop bar and patio with amazing views and a lengthy beer selection.
Although we didn’t go inside except to get to the roof, we saw they have a large indoor beer hall as well.
Location: Stuttgarden Tavern is located right off of The Strand and the patios, especially the third floor patio, actually overlook Pier 21 & Fisherman’s Wharf.
Service/Experience: We went straight up to the third floor patio and sat overlooking Pier 21. I had seen Stuttgarden from afar and knew exactly where I wanted to sit and enjoy a drink!
They also had a game of trivia happening on the second floor while we were there, which they have on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights.
Menu/Drink Selection: While at Stuttgarden, we just spent our time on the rooftop patio enjoying drinks. They have a great beer selection - 40 tap beers and a full liquor bar. Along with that, they have a lengthy “Regular Menu” as well as a “Seafood Menu” to eat from as well!

3. Galveston Island Brewing
My husband and I are beer lovers so, of course, one of the first things we did when we got onto the island was look up breweries. We saw a few - Galveston Island Brewing being one of them.
Our first night on The Strand. we were walking in and out of the stores and while we were looking at some Galveston Island Brewing beers, a vacationing couple came up to us recommending we visit to the brewery tap room - so we took that as our sign!
Location: The Galveston Island Brewery is located close to Seawall Boulevard, roughly at Stewart Rd. and 85th Street.
Service/Experience: We had a great experience at the brewery. They have a large outdoor seating section and a smaller seating section inside the tap room. We sat inside where they have their taps, small gift shop and six-packs & growlers of their beer for sale. The bartender working at the time was super friendly and helpful, as well.
After our experience, we went home with a six pack of their Galveston Causeway Kolsch, because I loved them, and a few of their brewery signs!
Menu/Drink Selection: They have a small bar snack food menu available - we shared the pretzel with cheese - and of course, a good selection of their beers on tap.

2. Texas Tail Distillery
Texas Tail Distillery. I honestly cannot say enough about this place!!
My husband and I spent one morning walking on the beach to the Pleasure Pier and not long after we got there… it started pouring down rain. So we grabbed lunch - at Bubba Gump’s Shrimp Co. - and started walking back down Seawall Boulevard once the rain was more of a drizzle. We were literally walking in plastic bags with holes in them, you guys! Because of the rain, Bubba Gump’s sold out of ponchos.
While walking back, we stumbled upon Texas Tail Distillery and decided to go in and I’m so glad we did because it ended up being one of our favorite places to visit in Galveston!
Location: Texas Tail Distillery is located on Seawall Boulevard near 41st Street.
Service/Experience: Like I mentioned before, I can’t say enough about this place. It’s a small bar, and we were there in the midst of COVID, so we were two out of five people there. They also have tour options on Fridays and Saturdays.
The staff there was absolutely amazing - they were super helpful, so patient and extremely friendly. The distillery sells a small selection of apparel and their products on site, which I will talk about more in the menu section.
My husband and I both left with new hats that we wear all the time!
Menu/Drink Selection: Texas Tail Distillery has three main products: Texas Tail Vodka, Coastline Whiskey, and Southern Marsh Moonshine. They have different varieties/flavors of each of these liquors and they offer flights for you to try them out.
We tried a few different vodkas and a few different whiskeys, then we each ordered our own individual drink. I had a frozen vodka strawberry lemonade and my husband had a moonshine margarita, which he could not stop talking about! Honestly, he still tells people about it all the time.
After that, we ended up leaving with two bottles of whiskey - one for my dad, one for his - and a bottle of vodka for us.

1. Brewchachos Tacos and Cantina
If you love tacos, margaritas and a super fun vibe - then you absolutely have to check this place out. This is another spot that I cannot say enough about and I feel like everyone should know about. Brewchachos was easily our favorite place to eat in Galveston.
This, along with the fact that we loved it enough to eat here two nights in a row, is why I have it listed at number one!
We drove around The Strand area before checking into our Airbnb, spotted Brewchachos and decided to eat there that night!
Location: Brewchachos is located on The Strand near Moody Avenue.
Service/Experience: We obviously loved our experience since we ate there two nights in a row!
They had delicious food, great service and, of course, great drinks. They have a small bar and seating area inside, but a lot of the seating is outside in a super cool, fun-painted area in between buildings.
It’s such an amazing vibe, we sat outside both nights and it was absolutely perfect!
Menu/Drink Selection: The first thing I have to talk about is their drink menu. They a selection of 40 beers on tap and 10 different margaritas on tap - my favorite part!
They sell margarita flights so that you can try four different margaritas at once. Both nights that we went we ordered margarita flights and we did not double order any! We tried eight different margaritas they had between the two nights.
Similarly, their food menu is amazing! They offer a few different appetizers, some quesadillas & burritos and a wide variety of tacos.
Brewchachos offers their breakfast tacos all day and they have a large variety of single tacos. A few we tried were the Pork Verde Taco, the Chicken Fajita Taco and the Gordita - which were all fantastic.
